Google vs. Spam

I have since the start up of my company, had my mail hosted with one of my friends. This has worked magnificently. But I started considering moving to Google Apps, due to the amount of spam received and my friends (understandable) lack of time to keep the spam filters up to date (he is a father too).

So when I fell over this blog entry and it’s links I thought that it might be a good idea to migrate. The statistics are interesting and the video is amusing.

I have not done any thorough analysis, so it is nice when somebody else does. Anyway I could see on my spam folders and inboxes that Gmail did a rather good job, compared to my work inbox.

But lack of time stranded my with a brief evaluation of the Google Apps premier edition.

I guess that things come to those who wait…

My friend mailed my that due to circumstances, which I will not go into here, he intended to move all the account to Google Apps.

And now I am a happy camper running with my work email hosted with Google and everything works swell – and I did not even have to lift a finger since my friend took care of the migration.

I only encountered one minor problem. I could see the filled inbox in the webmail, but Mail.app would not let me see anything – just empty. Yes an empty mailbox sounds like a nice thing, but not when something is expected to be there. So I deleted the account I had set up in Mail.app and created a new one – and bingo, all my mail was there.

This might have been due to changes in languages on the Google Apps settings, but I am not sure.

Oh, I better change the password again…
